My Week of Firsts

I keep going to the range because of the growth I feel as I develop different shooting skills.  But some days I want that little something extra. Luckily, I live in Georgia and go to a range, where I can rent almost any gun I could possibly want to try.  So you can imagine my excitement when, a few weeks ago I looked in the rental case and  right on top, was a brand new addition... The big bad Desert Eagle!  For anyone unfamiliar, this is one of those weapons with a "reputation".

Growing as a Shooter (Part I)

A few weeks ago I went to my first "Fun Shoot" put on by, Archangel Tactical LLC, at Sandy Springs Shooting Range. It was my first chance to try some practical shooting & moving while shooting. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend doing something like this, as it will help you assess your shooting and training from a new perspective. I had a lot of fun and got my adrenaline pumping. However, I left the experience highly aware that I am still, very much, a beginner.

Dry Firing with the Laser Trainer

In one of my first posts after starting the ArmedCandy blog, I showcased two products by LaserLyte that are made to help with home defense practice. These are the Laser Trainer Cartridge & the Laser Trainer Target. The cartridge is a red dot laser that gets chambered into your pistol and is activated for barely a second by the firing pin, when you pull the trigger. When used as a set, the LEDs inside the Target, record your shots and are reveled when you "tell" the target to do so. (See prior post and included videos for a more detailed explanation of the two devices.)

When I first learned of these two devices I thought it would be great to have the option of working on my shooting accuracy outside the range. At $75 and change, the cartridge seemed pretty expensive for what it was. I looked at the lesser models (not made by Laserlyte) but they seemed useless to me for one major reason: once assembled with the batteries inside, they would stay lit, until taken apart. I still can't figure out the point of those devices but they made it easy for me to decide to buy the Laserlyte cartridge.

Ooohh! Sparkly!

As soon as I saw this product I thought, "...Holy ArmedCandy Batman! I must tell every Candy about Brilliant Backstraps!"

I brought a Brilliant Backstrap to my local range to get their thoughts (and to see them, in action, installed on an M&P). When I pulled one from my bag a few guys rolled their eyes, but as soon as I placed the purple & black swirls on a new S&W M&P from the sales display, people began to comment.

2 Girls & 2 Blogs

"Packing Pretty" and I bonded when we both tweeted about the tourture of being left behind, as the rest of the firearms industry attended SHOTShow. Our blogs were too new for either of us to be considered "press", but, as bloggers do, we would not suffer silently. We discussed our mutual passion for guns and for sharing quality shooting information with woman. Then we thought it might be fun to join forces on a blog post. Though "Packing Pretty" and I live on opposite sides of the country, last week we managed to sit and visit. Here is the product of our little chat. I hope our readers enjoy it. I hope this can be the first of many collaborations between "ArmedCandy" and "Packing Pretty" and I hope other girl-gun bloggers will join in as well.
