Buzzfeed says the NRA is collecting our info... So?

By Gabby

buzzfeed says the NRA is collecting information on Gun Owners and we don't care
I am going to address what the rest of the gun media has ignored. Maybe they have left the accusation alone because it is unworthy of their comments or maybe they worry that by commenting, they mightt be poking the bear. Either way, I feel that by staying silent, the media who puts out nonsense, isn’t held responsible for their misleading journalism, and gun owners miss an opportunity to educate the folks who would otherwise be swayed by such articles.

On Tuesday night, Buzz Feed posted an article entitled, “How The NRA Built A Massive Secret Database of Gun Owners: While the National Rifle Association publically fights against a national gun registry, the organization has gone to incredible lengths to compile information on “tens of millions” of gun owners -- without their consent.”

Finally Sighted In

By Gabby

sighting in ArmedCandy Rifle, Ar15A few weeks ago I wrote an article about all the trouble I was having sighting in my rifle.
I set them back to center and then went to the range, but asked for a little expert assistance. The first shot we took was almost perfect, then the 2nd wasn't. This was puzzling to both of us but we kept trying, and quickly, it seemed like we were getting close. When our adjustments stopped appearing like they were helping, we used the bore sight (which has now gone missing) and finally got to a good place, with consistency.

Breaking: School Shooting in Ga, for Gun Nuts

By Gabby for Gun Nuts

school shooting in Decatur GeorgiaThis morning the AP is reporting that yesterday "Michael Brandon Hill" fired at least six rounds at police from his "assault rifle" an AK47, while demanding that the elementary school staff members, who he was holding captive, call a local television station. As policed swarmed the school in Decatur GA, the suspect dropped to the floor and surrendered.

Self Directed Shooting Training for Gun nuts

By Gabby for Gun Nuts

Georgia Carry.org convention with ArmedCandyLast week I shared the begining of a talk given by gun expert and instructor Claude Werner at the Georgia Carry.org convention recently. I'd like to continue the discussion of how each of you continues your training once you leave the classroom and share some of the tips I learned from Mr. Werner.

Charging Handle Latch gets Swapped on AR-15

By Gabby

first AR modification, new latch for charging handle
The beauty of the AR platform is that, if you want, it can be a continuous work in progress. So if you're a hands-on girl like myself, you may find a part to swap out or an upgrade and end up pretty busy. One of the smallest upgrades one can make, I decided to try, when I realized the tiny-ness of the original charging handle latch. Many people who met my AR had noticed this right away, typical guys, but it wasn't until I started shooting with it, that I noticed the discomfort.

Werner speaks on self-guided practice, for gun nuts

By Gabby for Gun Nuts

Claude Warner speaks at Georgia Carry.org convention about self-guided practiceWhile out researching one of my first ArmedCandy blog posts, over two years ago, I was lucky enough to meet a man who is a highly regarded instructor in the firearms community. He is nationally regarded as an expert on snubby revolvers, though his knowledge seems unlimited. He is also an accomplished gun writer and has been, something of a mentor to me. Surprisingly, it was not until this past weekend, that I was able to sit in one of his lectures for the first time.

Does this offend you?

By Gabby

ArmedCandy T shirt for men
Believe it or not, I happen to be a pro at saying just the wrong thing at the worst possible time. With the best of intentions, I have been known to put my foot in my mouth on numerous occasions. However, blogging and writing, has really helped me think before I speak and remember to focus on only the issue at hand. Many of my blunders of the past, occurred because my sense of humor didn't come across in a statement that was meant purely in jest. So when I designed the following T-shirt, I knew I should clear it with a number of people, before I went any further.

Guys, I like my guns girly, for Gun Nuts

By Gabby for Gun Nuts

Gabby's girly gun and colorful gun accessoriesI recently received a piece of unsolicited advice, my favorite kind, from a gun guy. He felt that to focus on colorful gear, watered down ArmedCandy's message. He said, pink and turquoise weren't very tactical, and my time could better spend elsewhere. I wasn't thrilled to read this, but I wasn't really offended either. His comment made me realize that I may be forever explaining this part of my philosophy to men.

New York State, the 2nd Amendment, and Guns

By Gabby

new York and guns A very interesting question came up at GCO on Saturday. A gentleman asked about the State of New York, it's resident and their feelings toward guns.

Now, had this not been a spontaneous question and a topic I planned to discuss, I would have done more research, but in the heat of the moment, I answered the question based purely on my interactions with people I have met in New York over the past few years.

Georgia Carry .org Convention starts tomorrow

By Gabby

GeorgiaCarry.org Convention line up to include Gabby of ArmedCandy
This weekend I will be speaking at my second GeorgiaCarry.org Convention in Smyrna GA. Last year I was a very green gun girl and gun blogger but I was welcomed and made many new friends. This year I hope to do more of the same, but I will also bring a full year's worth of gun-blogging knowledge to share.

Self Defense and the Single Girl, for Gun Nuts

By Gabby for Gun Nuts

couples who shoot togetherI talk a lot about couples that bond over guns. They enjoy going to the range together, cleaning their guns together, or some other guncentric activities. I've also discussed all sorts of issues regarding women being responsible for their own personal defense. However, as a dating woman there are certain questions that arise somewhere between single life and coupledom.

Reports on Self Defense Shootings

By Gabby

news reports on self defense shootings
My super-dooper lefty friend, has just sent me a third article in two weeks about a crime that ended with a criminal shot by the intended victim. The first two stories, she passed to me with a comment stating that, I am wrong, the news does cover gun owners who fight back against criminal targeting. The third article came with no note, just a link. All three were local stories, two involved home break-ins and one was a hold-up in a diner. The articles did not mention any deaths stemming from these shootings and in all three cases, the police did not intend to charge the victims. However, if asked, she would still definitively say that she doesn't think the average citizen should own a gun.

Trouble Zeroing my Rifle, for Gun Nuts

By Gabby for Gun Nuts

Wildlife Management area in central Georgia, Charlie Elliot Shooting RangeI have found a new favorite place to shoot! About 45 minutes south and a bit east of Atlanta is a "Wild Life Managment Area" called, Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center. Now, I say that the trip takes 45 minutes, but if you live in, have ever visited, or have even heard of the city of Atlanta, you know that the bulk of the travel commitment is not included in this amount of time. So, as long as you've packed your patience, you will be in for a treat!

Shooting Range in Mansfield GA

By Gabby

Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center and 100 yard shooting range in Mansfield Ga
The Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center is in Mansfield, GA and consists of 6400 acres of outdoor opportunities managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. I've driven past the archery range and the business center, and they seem nice, but what keeps me going back is the 100 yard rifle range.

Are you too right to talk guns with the left?

By Gabby

talk to a liberal about guns today
I was once told that eventually my "moderate" political view, would eventually change... That I would lose the ability to reason and discuss with anti-gunners and gun-controllers and my views would migrate further and further right. I hope this doesn't come to pass, because I like the deep thoughts that come from debates with those who think differently.
