We're Reading- "Things I've Learned While Reloading"

Things I've Learned While Reloading

I recently started reloading my own ammo. There’s a lot of experimentation as well trial and error to it. Sometimes I feel like a mad scientist. It’s been a bumpy ride, to say the least. Let’s talk about a few things I've learned that I have yet to see in a guide or book. ...

2A and the City - Loss of a Gun Guy and my Rifle

By Lauren

a girl and her gun as she fights for her right to bear arms in New York City
After my last post, I realized that I left out a lot. Specifically, I felt I should share, how I got my rifle and why I am going to all the trouble of register it and getting it back. Two years ago I fell in love with shooting through my aunt. She lives about 3 hours outside of New York City and is a total gun girl. Because I live in the city and am therefore limited, I started taking bi-monthly weekend trips to go shooting with my aunt. She introduced me to some awesome people, including her instructor, a contestant from Season 4 of Top Shot. Not only was I finding a new hobby that made me completely happy, but I was grateful to be learning from America's best. Soon I was attending Second Amendment rallies in Albany and helping to plan the First Annual Women's Concealed Carry Fashion Show.

Gabby's off to Shoot a Bear, for Gun Nuts

By Gabby for Gun Nuts

black bear cub! a girl takes her gun to defend her friends from a bear
Have I told you about my bear hunt?

First, you should know that I've never pointed a firearm at anything with a heartbeat, let alone a cute furry animal.

Second, I'll admit that this was no "hunt" and it was technically over before it began, but it was an exciting moment in my gun-wielding life and I hope you enjoy it.

2A and the City - NY SAFE Act

By Lauren

Lauren, woman fights for a rifle permit in New York City
As many of you know, New York State has been fighting against the SAFE Act that was passed in the middle of the night days after the tragic school shooting in Sandy Hook, CT. Since then, it has been nearly impossible for New Yorkers to register for firearms, or obtain ammunition. Some of these laws include maximum magazine capacities of no more than 10 rounds. However, unless one is at the range, no more than 7 rounds may be loaded in a magazine. Also, the ever-popular AR-15, has now been banned completely in New York State. ALL firearms, including rifles must be registered and there are no "private sales" allowed in New York. All sales must get processed through an FFL and require a background check, the only exception being immediate family members.

Preaching to the Chior, for Gun Nuts

By Gabby for Gun Nuts

arguments from anti-gun people and gun lovers
We've all heard the arguments from the antis, but one of the thing that I notice both sides doing, that drives me baty, is arguing with they're own side. Please understand, I don't mean in-fighting, I mean discussing the issues with those who already agree with your side, and then walking away feeling as though you've accomplished anything. I've seen this happen at the range, but it's rare for me to glimpse the other side mimicking the behavior.

Open-Carry in Starbucks? You're doing it wrong

By

Starbucks takes a stand on guns and open carry
Attempting to turn Starbucks into some sort of pro-gun corporate hero was unfounded. I, like so many others, was willingly duped into thinking that Starbucks had a welcoming open-carry policy, by all the "Guns and Coffee" schwag I saw around. But that turned out not to be the case. As it turns out, Starbucks had a "look the other way" policy, and now that is over.

Self Defense and Jewish Ideals, Are They Mutually Exclusive, for Gun Nuts

By Gabby for Gun Nuts

Jews and self defense, are the two mutually exclusive? Lets study some Jewish texts
Last week I was at Synagogue on the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. This day is called Yom Kippur, or The Day of Repentance, and we generally observe it by fasting for 24 hours and praying for god to obsolve us of a years worth of sins.

NYPD Shooting Accuracy

By Gabby

NYC cops shoot bystanders in time square stirring questions about accuracy
This morning I posted to facebook about a shooting that occurred overnight in New York City. Cops opened fire on an unarmed suspect and accidentally hit two bystanders. Previously, our own "C-Mag" posted about how the NYPD uses custom Glocks with weighted triggers. A discussion followed about why they would prefer such a modification and what affect a heavier trigger would have on their accuracy.
